Helen Stephenson's Windsor & Eton Pictures, 28th November 2007

An American friend was in Windsor on business and I took a day off to meet up with her. I deliberately arrived earlier than our appointed meeting time in Windsor to give myself time for some photography.

These pictures were captured using a Pentax K10D digital SLR camera.

It was daylight when I arrived, and I took these two pictures from the Windosr side of the River Thames looking across to the Eton side. The bridge is a footbridge.

There were numerous very tame swans which were obviously used to being fed by passing tourists. However I photographed this one in the middle of the river.

I had hopes of a good sunset as the weather man had promised one. In the event, the river doesn't line up with the sunset in late November, but I photographed it through the trees along the river bank.

I made use of the twilight to take some more pictures after the sun had gone down. I had to work hard when editing these to get any detail into parts of them, and I'm pleased with the effect I've achieved.

You can't go to Windsor and not get a picture of Windsor Castle! Here are two, which show only a small portion of the castle, as I didn't have time to walk and find a better viewpoint. They had switched the lights on inside by the time I took the second picture.

I walked to the east side of the bridge to take these pictures. They are much the same, but the one on the left is a slightly better overall picture, while the one on the right has better sky, so I included both!

I hadn't realised how close Eton was to Windsor, but I couldn't miss realising it when I walked over the footbridge and the first thing I saw was this "Welcome to Eton" Christmas banner.

I considered The George to be a photogenic pub, and I took several pictures of it, and this was the one I liked best.

The Christmas decorations in Eton were simple but effective.

These pictures were taken as the twilight deepened.

I took photos until about 40 minutes after sunset, and then I packed up my camera and tripod and went and met my friend in Brown's, which was just nearby where I'd been doing my photography.
