I decided that it was time that I explored the Butlers Wharf area to the south east of Tower Bridge, and I went there armed with my Ricoh XR-X camera, a selection of lenses and a tripod. I used the tripod for quite a few of these pictures, too!

To the left is a slide taken from St Katharine Docks on the other side of The Thames, while to the right is the view of Butlers Wharf which can be seen from the east of the two upper walkways of Tower Bridge, captured on colour negative film. |

Now that you've seen what the area is like from vantage points some distance away, I'm going to get in much closer with the Ricoh XR-X loaded with colour negative film. |

This is what Tower Bridge looks like when viewed from Butlers Wharf. The three tallest buildings in The City of London are framed between the towers of the bridge. The building on the left is the former Nat West Tower, now known as Tower 42, and the building on the right is the new Swiss Re building, generally known as "the gherkin". |

I walked past the main Butlers Wharf buildings and came to these riverside apartments, which are at least partly made from old warehouses. They even have the cranes still on the side of some of them, but my crane shot wasn't very interesting to look at. |

Behind Butlers Wharf is a street lined with old warehouses. It's called Shad Thames and is now virtually unique in London. I've included the information plaque which explains all about it. |

Here are two pictures of Shad Thames, in which the numerous bridges between buildings on opposite sides of the street are clearly visible. |

Also tucked away behind Butlers Wharf is Tower Bridge Piazza, where there is a fountain. It is in the shape of a huge metal tub with many female forms incorporated into it. The fountain effect is achieved by the continual overflowing of tub. On the surrounding basin of the fountain, a figure reclines, and you can see items such as books and a notepad also sculpted into the outer edge of the basin. |
